Street Furniture Australia Stands with AILA

Street Furniture Australia stands alongside the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) during this challenging period for the profession and its national body.
Since 2014 we have been a proud National Partner of AILA, working together to support landscape architects and champion the value of thoughtful, well-designed places across Australia.
Over our 12-year partnership we have supported and collaborated on festivals, awards programs, advocacy initiatives, education and countless moments of professional connection – including:
- Activating grey spaces with art, colour and movable chairs in Canberra through #BackyardExperiment,
- Experimenting with smart cities through Future Street,
- Committing to carbon neutrality and an emissions reduction strategy following our support of AILA’s Declaration of a Climate and Biodiversity Loss Emergency,
- Facilitating dialogue with the public sector on density, climate and liveability in Western Sydney through our annual West Fest symposium,
- Hosting Jazz at The Mint, our annual networking and product showcase for local and US landscape architects,
- Co-designing new products such as the Linea and Piatto ranges in consultation with landscape architects.
AILA plays a vital role in maintaining professional standards, accreditation, advocacy and graduate pathways – functions that are fundamental to the future of landscape architecture in Australia. We recognise the importance of these core responsibilities and the leadership required to guide the organisation through a period of significant transition and lay the groundwork for a successful future.
We wish to acknowledge the AILA staff who are no longer with the institute. Over many years we have had the privilege of working closely with them and experienced first-hand their professionalism, care and commitment to the landscape architecture community. Their contributions have been significant, and they will be greatly missed by colleagues, members and partners alike.
We remain committed to engaging with landscape architects across Australia, providing forums for connection, and contributing meaningful value to members in support of AILA’s recovery.
We believe the landscape architecture profession is built through long-term commitment, shared values and collective effort, and we continue to support AILA’s work and its focus on rebuilding a sustainable, resilient operating model that serves its members and the broader community.
In response to Street Furniture Australia’s statement, AILA National President Heath Gledhill said: “We recognise the importance of our strong relationship with our partners, now more than ever. Street Furniture Australia has been, and we truly hope will remain, a strong partner for AILA as we move through these challenging changes to our institute.
“We strongly recognise that partners are essential to promoting our profession, not only to government and development agencies, but to education providers across our many States and territories.”
