St Anthony’s Catholic School

Rainbow benches are installed in outdoor learning and play areas of St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School in Marsfield in northern Sydney. The students were consulted in the design of their new playground, says Principal Julianne Rook, and requested ‘Rainbow Seats’ to brighten the space. “They chose vivid, happy colours to complement the soft fall and shade cloth colours, favouring a combination of curved and straight seating,” she says. “The space is multi-functional, serving as both an outdoor learning and interactive play space.” Mall Curved Slim Benches are paired with Mall Slim Benches to create curved and straight formations. Dillwynia Women’s Correctional Centre

This project is part of the 2021 AILA NSW Landscape Architecture Awards. NBRS Architecture and Landscape have designed therapeutic spaces for a women’s prison expansion in Sydney, NSW, using “trauma informed principles” to promote rehabilitation. The Dillwynia Correctional Centre expansion accommodates a growing number of female inmates in NSW, Australia, with increased security requirements and higher frequency of mental health issues. Within a compact site NBRS has designed greenspace, accommodation, education, work, health, spiritual and visitation spaces to replicate familiar aspects of life outside, helping maintain normality and contribute to healing. “Our team envisioned a facility that considered the end users. Estella Public School

Connecting with Country was integral to the design process for this new primary school in Wagga Wagga, commissioned for a major building program by School Infrastructure NSW. Estella Public School sits within the large Wiradjuri nation area in New South Wales. The project’s designers, Taylor Brammer Landscape Architects and Pedavoli Architects, have designed the landscape and built environment with Wiradjuri influence of forms, learning, play and planting. The resulting form of the school mimics a river bend that tracks the site’s contours, highlighting the connection between the Wiradjuri people and the Murrumbidgee River. The design narrative, says Taylor Brammer, elevates “the Wiradjuri values of language, land, time, totems, and flora throughout the school. From this, a site-wide landscape masterplan evolved through considerations of the existing site alongside extensive research into …
