Club Sunbury

A state of the art covered bowling green with adjacent raised concourse for dining has opened to community fanfare at Club Sunbury in Victoria. Rubicon Design and Construct delivered the project, specifying 29 Aria 3-seaters with Jarrah hardwood battens and Textura Monument frames. To keep the area tidy, 12 Plato Bins are spaced out around the green, with aluminium anodised fluted bodies. “It was terrific to join the Board of Directors, Cr Geoff Porter and local residents at the opening of the outstanding all weather, covered bowling green,” said Josh Bull, MP for Sunbury. “This is a great new facility for our community and sure to provide many great times ahead.” The redevelopment includes Al Fresco Cafe style dining and relaxing lounge areas, overlooking the carpeted bowling green. Woden Experiment

A six-month prototype installation aiming to bring life, joy and comfort to Canberra’s Woden Town Square, supported by the ACT Government. The concept, designed by Context, features places to work, dine, meet and play. The project follows the success of the multi award-winning #BackyardExperiment activation in Garema Place, Canberra, lead by Street Furniture Australia and the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects in 2016. The ACT Government commissioned Street Furniture Australia’s R&D team to undertake a six-week exploration into the community’s experience of the square. The resulting Discovery Report informed the design, to put people at the heart of the activation. The concept is based around creating experiences for each of the six personas identified during the Discovery: Mum with pram, who attends Story Time at the library and grocery shops …

Future Street

Driverless shuttles, park benches that charge your phone and bins that send alerts when they’re full – the Future Street showed smart cities are within our grasp today. The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA), Internet of Things Alliance Australia (IOTAA) and Smart Cities Council Australia New Zealand (SCCANZ) built the street of the future at Circular Quay on Alfred Street, in front of Customs House in October 2017. Place Design Group, as the design partner, curated Green, Complete and Smart Street zones to imagine the best placemaking outcomes for street designs of the future. “We found that people were using the seats, tables and platforms for work and social gatherings. Build it and they will come, is a good lesson for providing more infrastructure like this in our streets,” …
