Chullora Marketplace NSW, Australia (2022)

Visitors to Chullora Marketplace are welcomed to a new slow dining experience, across day and night, with a food and beverage precinct by Design Clarity.

“Chullora Marketplace is a much loved and well-utilised mall with an active, vibrant and diverse local community. Our project aim was to provide an amenity upgrade for customers, to activate the dining precinct by creating a comfortable and inviting space and providing weatherproof design solutions,” said Kristina Hetherington, Managing Director of Design Clarity.

The improved outdoor amenity includes warm lighting, greenery, shared communal dining zones and dedicated licensed seating areas.

“We wanted to ensure there were options for singles, families and groups who may choose to buy from anywhere within the centre and dine outside together. The selections were made for comfort, durability, aesthetics and ability to tailor options to suit our overall scheme,” said Kristina.

“We’ve already seen many locals embracing the new seating zones. As the existing foodie tenancies complete their new fitouts and the weather warms up we know there’ll be a lot more alfresco activation.

“It’s now much more than a shopping destination – it’s a meeting place where locals connect, families dine and school kids gather to see friends. It’s about giving something back to the customers and making a place everyone can enjoy.”

The architects have specified comfortable, durable Aria Seating System and Tables, Cafe Macchiato Tables and Cafe Stools to support outdoor dining.

Aria was selected for its flexibility, with connector modules allowing for curved and connected configurations, complemented with bespoke bench pieces by Design Clarity to resolve corner detailing with elegance while using standard Street Furniture Australia parts.

A sophisticated palette of woodgrain aluminium Spotted Gum and Textura Night Sky also brings high durability and easy maintenance to the furniture suite – only requiring a wipe-down with water when necessary.

Frame Bin Enclosures are also installed to help keep the area clean. For bins these same materials support easy wipe-downs, keeping them looking good with regular use for years to come.

Junction Court, Nowra

A $900k strategic upgrade by Shoalhaven City Council and Place Score has seen exciting results – including a 30-40% increase in Net Promoter Score – for an underutilised space in the town centre of Nowra, New South Wales. The Street Revitalisation Project was funded by the NSW government as part of the Your High Street grant program and endorsed by the Nowra CBD Revitalisation Strategy Committee. Prior to the transformation, Place Score undertook community and stakeholder consultation and measured a ‘before’ snapshot of the performance of the space through a Street PX assessment. This resulted in a clear vision of how it could be improved for the community – and set benchmarks to track impacts. Junction Court was identified as a potential drawcard for the daytime and weekend economy, said Kylie …
