Introducing the new Pillar Leg

Street Furniture Australia is delighted to introduce the Pillar Leg. Designed to bring a new contemporary, minimal profile to our more classic designs.
Behind its clean lines is a structural redesign aimed at improving table and seat sturdiness. An upper hub feature covers the axle cap to help prevent sway, while a wider, 14 mm-thick foot pad incorporates a third anchor point. Together, these enhancements help prevent pivoting and improve stability in multiple directions; making the new Pillar leg the strongest and sturdiest leg option.

What’s in a furniture leg?
But why is Street Furniture Australia introducing the new Pillar leg when there are already five distinct leg options? Especially considering a furniture leg has a pretty simple job: to hold a seat, bench or table up.
Let’s take a closer look at the full range of leg options and the key considerations for selecting the right one for your project. From angled outward Splay, gracefully curved Arch, inverted Tee, flexible Post, and the new slim but strong Pillar, each leg profile will influence how people move through, sit in and experience a public space.

Freestanding Options
Not every public space is designed to stay the same.
While all Street Furniture Australia legs can be fixed to the ground through either surface or subsurface-fixed options, Splay, Arch, and Tee legs can also be specified as freestanding. With two points of contact providing stable support, freestanding furniture offers greater flexibility, allowing layouts to be easily changed as needs evolve.
However, outdoor surfaces are rarely level. Freestanding furniture with multiple legs requires thoughtful placement to ensure each point sits evenly and remains stable.

Designed to accommodate everyone
Beyond installation, a leg can directly affect how comfortable and inclusive a space feels.
For picnic settings, Tee and the new Pillar legs can be tailored to a taller height to accommodate wheelchairs and to meet Australian Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) requirements. It is important to also pair seats and benches with taller heights to ensure user comfort.
Wheelchair accessible tables can be single end or double end access.

Matching the landscape
Aesthetics play a role too. The shape of a leg can complement or contrast the surrounding architecture, pathways and materials, helping furniture to sit naturally within its setting.

New Leg family
When selecting furniture, whilst the choice of legs may not be the leading design consideration, it is still a pivotal functional and aesthetic element and hence Street Furniture Australia offers a range of leg options to meet practical requirements and provide style options.
The new Pillar leg option is engineered to fit seamlessly across signature ranges including Mall, Classic Galleria, Classic Promenade, and Concourse, and will replace the Pedestal leg within these ranges.
In addition, new Pillar arms will be available with just the Mall Seat to compliment the new legs. The new Pillar legs and arms are available to specify starting October 2026.
