Introducing WoodPlus™ – engineered wood

Tested for the demands of public space, WoodPlus™ offers the benefits of natural hardwood with a lower impact on the environment.
For landscape architects and asset managers, specifying timber has become a balancing act between performance, availability and environmental responsibility. Street Furniture Australia’s rollout of WoodPlus responds directly to that challenge. Now available across all ranges, WoodPlus offers a durable timber alternative designed for long-term public use.
Looks and feels like natural timber
Natural hardwood has long defined Australian public space furniture, valued for its warmth, authenticity and enduring character. Yet the reality is, sourcing high quality, native hardwood is becoming increasingly difficult – with diminished supply and an increasing reject rate on our factory floor.
WoodPlus takes a different approach to timber manufacturing. Produced from fast-growing FSC-certified plantation timber, it offers the look, feel, strength and workability of hardwood while reducing reliance on slow-regenerating native species.

Less waste
At a manufacturing level, the material also improves timber efficiency. Where traditional hardwood production relies heavily on the heartwood of the tree, leaving significant portions of each log unused, WoodPlus utilises more of every log, not just the heartwood, minimising waste from the outset while maintaining a solid timber appearance and feel.
Like natural hardwood, WoodPlus battens can be sanded back and refreshed, supporting product longevity and reducing replacement cycles for councils and asset managers.

Reduce maintenance by allowing it to naturally silver
WoodPlus passed Street Furniture Australia’s stringent 12-month in-house durability testing, with a surprising result – even when left raw (un-oiled), WoodPlus outperformed Spotted Gum hardwood, with reduced cracking and more consistent natural silvering over the 12 month period. As a result we are confident to offer WoodPlus in both oiled and raw finish options.

Made from faster growing trees
Woodplus is made from poplar and eucalyptus fibres harvested from fast-growing FSC and PEFC-certified plantations. Thin layers of tree fibre are bound together using a resin that is compressed using heat and pressure into a solid piece of engineered wood.
Environmental and performance standards
Designed for demanding outdoor conditions, WoodPlus is water and termite resistant, bushfire resistant to BAL-29 standards, does not leach tannins and oiling is optional. Left raw, WoodPlus requires less ongoing maintenance than traditional hardwood.
Street Furniture Australia’s selected WoodPlus supplier is certified to FSC, ISO14001, Climate Active and Singapore Green Label standards, reinforcing the material’s environmental credentials alongside its practical performance benefits.
WoodPlus has achieved Durability Class 1 under EN 113-2 and EN 350 standards. This performance has been further verified by Street Furniture Australia through in-house testing. In addition, Street Furniture Australia has inspected project sites in Singapore and Malaysia, where installations have been in service for more than 10 years.
Available across all ranges
