Dover Street Reserve
The City of Port Adelaide Enfield has built a vibrant $4.5 million community open space and playground with provision for flood protection, designed by Swanbury Penglase, in the Blair Athol suburb of Adelaide, South Australia.
The driving objectives of the reserve were “to provide needed stormwater detention and connection for the local soccer club, together with creating sports amenity, and a community play and gathering space,” says Swanbury Penglase.
The extensive open space includes a playground, climbing gym, nature play, sports courts, picnic areas and a large mural to support the community’s health and wellbeing. Underground stormwater infrastructure is included to alleviate flooding in the local area.
Bright furniture was specified to contribute to place identity and amenity; Swanbury Penglase says, “The Linea Seats in a single bold colour were chosen as the key element in a strong colour palette to create a sense of identity for the reserve, and to complement the play space. Orange was chosen to bring brightness and joy.”
The Linea range and Frame Bin Enclosures from Street Furniture Australia are specified in the fade-resistant DuraBright Sensation Orange powdercoat.
Linea DDA Tables provide settings accessible to wheelchair users, and Linea Seats offer places to rest throughout the space.
Semi Hoop Bicycle Parking, in stainless 316 No.4 finish, provide further amenity to the community with active transport.
