Harmony Park, Octave at Junction Village VIC, Australia (2022)

The community of Octave at Junction Village, a development in South-East Melbourne, can enjoy relaxing in the sunshine and connecting with nature for both physical and mental wellbeing at the newly opened Harmony Park.

Designed by landscape architects GbLA, and constructed by LDTotal, Harmony Park aims to enhance the community’s connection to nature, with the site’s links to the conservation area and habitat of the endangered Southern Brown Bandicoot.

The 1.05-hectare reserve is furnished with a suite specified by GbLA to complement the landscape, supplied by Street Furniture Australia. GbLA chose the Linea range with its sleek minimal forms, including Linea Seats, Linea DDA settings and Linea Platforms.

GbLA senior landscape architect Gemma Ashley says, “We coordinated with Street Furniture Australia to customise the Linea seats with armrests in a brass metallic powder coat, and frames in a black powder coat to create a bold finish.”

The brass on the seats is a special extra, inspired by art deco sculptures, and is paired with eco-certified hardwood battens and Night Sky frames.

The park also features a playground for children of all ages, with a design that references the Southern Bandicoot. Gemma Ashley says, “The custom-designed cubby and series of play tunnels are representative of bandicoot burrows and their natural habitat.”

The playground also includes carved timber bandicoot sculptures by artist Glenn Romanis.

Prospect Road

Public spaces have been created by the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, designed by WAX Design, to increase places for people and reduce vehicle impact along Prospect Road, in Kilburn and Blair Athol in Adelaide, South Australia. WAX worked with Council, community members, business owners and other stakeholders to design a conceptual overlay of rugs and carpets at each intersection to reflect the multicultural community that live and work in the area. The designs aim to bring a sense of welcome for the growing community. “The use of Street Furniture Australia’s Linea Seat, in combination with bespoke concrete seating walls, created unique rest points along that street that reinforce congregation and community activation,” says WAX. The custom precast concrete seat was manufactured by Bianco Precast, and contractor LCS Landscapes worked …

The school will grow with the two year groups until it encompasses classes from 7-12, from 2026. Swanbury Penglase provided a holistic design for the campus as both the architects and landscape architects for the project. Lana Greer, landscape architect, says the furniture selection was driven by both the aesthetic vision and activities the college would like to support outdoors. “We were pleased to be able to install a variety of furniture selections from Street Furniture Australia across the new campus that are both durable and elegant. “The furniture is reflective of the campus’ architectural style and facilitates a variety of outdoor learning opportunities through different arrangements and installation …

A state government project managed by DevelopmentWA, the project aims to demonstrate exemplary waste avoidance and resource recovery innovations in residential development. DevelopmentWA’s Senior Manager, Naomi Lawrance says, “The landscape design preserves the existing landform and minimises cut to fill, to retain significant mature trees for shade and habitat value.” Josh Byrne & Associates were engaged as the landscape architects, sustainability and urban water consultants on the project. Their design for the landscape “is inspired by local flora and fauna, with several small-scale pocket parks centred around existing mature trees, creating a variety of engaging outdoor community …
