Prospect Road SA, Australia (2022)

Public spaces have been created by the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, designed by WAX Design, to increase places for people and reduce vehicle impact along Prospect Road, in Kilburn and Blair Athol in Adelaide, South Australia.

WAX worked with Council, community members, business owners and other stakeholders to design a conceptual overlay of rugs and carpets at each intersection to reflect the multicultural community that live and work in the area. The designs aim to bring a sense of welcome for the growing community.

“The use of Street Furniture Australia’s Linea Seat, in combination with bespoke concrete seating walls, created unique rest points along that street that reinforce congregation and community activation,” says WAX.

The custom precast concrete seat was manufactured by Bianco Precast, and contractor LCS Landscapes worked closely with Council’s project manager to deliver the integrated urban design values of the project.

Linea Seats sit flush on the plinth via standard brackets. The furniture features highly durable and low-maintenance materials, with Wood Without Worry aluminium battens in Spotted Gum and frames in Textura Woodland Grey.

More than 1000 members of the local community greeted the new spaces at an opening event in August 2022.

“It was a great opportunity for residents, their families and visitors to enjoy the new spaces. Feedback overall was very positive and everyone enjoyed a full day of activities, music, eating, drinking and socialising,” says WAX. “We look forward to seeing the landscape mature and how the spaces are used in the future.”

St Francis of Assisi College

Students from year 7 to 8 will enjoy a brand-new campus at St Francis of Assisi College in Renmark, South Australia. The school will grow with the two year groups until it encompasses classes from 7-12, from 2026. Swanbury Penglase provided a holistic design for the campus as both the architects and landscape architects for the project.
