The landscape architecture team from Wilson Architects designed several ‘places in the landscape’ for one of Brisbane’s most historic sites – All Hallows’ School.

The all-girls school was established in 1861 and is home to some of Queensland’s oldest buildings.

Street Furniture Australia seats and tables are included in this 2019 Queensland AILA Landscape Architecture Award winning project.

The brief was to maintain the pastoral quality of the school and its river views.

The AILA award judges said Wilson Architects’ design “amplifies the site’s prime inner-city position, while continuing the architectural language of the firm’s recent works at the school.”

Jury members applauded the “subtly and charm of these places which honour the site’s historic setting,” while “supporting its current and future pedagogical objectives.”

“The spaces demonstrate a sophisticated curation of texture and scale, celebrating both fine grain heritage detail and uninterrupted river and city vista,” they said.

“A robust, high quality material palette underpins this agile landscape, which connects and integrates both contemporary and heritage built form with flare.”

Existing Classic Plaza Tables with Classic Galleria Slim Benches are included in two new outdoor spaces.

Students can work at table settings in the reimagined Catherine Court, and in a new place known as Kirinari – an indigenous word meaning ‘place of learning.’
