Street Furniture Australia’s entire product range and manufacturing operation has received carbon neutral certification through Climate Active™. Achieving carbon neutral certification marks a significant milestone in our operation and the culmination of a four year long process of detailed measurement and analysis. Climate Active™ is the only Australian government-backed carbon neutral certification programme for businesses to measure, reduce, and offsets their carbon emissions. It is one of the most rigorous carbon-neutral programs in the world. An approved Emissions Reduction Strategy (ERS) is central to achieving certification through Climate Active. Engineered Wood: A New Timber Alternative

With the look and feel of natural timber, backed by 12 months of performance testing for the public realm, engineered wood joins Street Furniture Australia’s selection of batten materials. Designers and place custodians can now choose from three batten options to achieve a timber look: natural Spotted Gum hardwood, low maintenance aluminium Wood Without Worry, and engineered wood known as Onewood HRT. Camerer hatches winning seat

Landscape architect Nicholas Camerer, from Fremantle’s Ecoscape in Western Australia, is the winner of the first Intergrain Urban Timber Project. Graduates and students pitched their designs for a functional piece of urban furniture for a community garden in Werribee Park, Victoria; a supportive cross-cultural hub for locals and Karen refugees. The challenge: to find imaginative ways to use timber in a seat that invites the community to come together. Camerer’s winning design, ‘Hatch,’ features a curved form and strong timber cross beams, which can serve as a leaning rack for tools and garden stakes when not being used as a seat. Flashes of red, white and blue on inner panels represent the colours of both Karen and Australian flags. The bench is designed for easy maintenance and cleaning, and complements an existing …

Silhouettes in the Park

Instagrammer Aaron Crothers met Street Furniture Australia in Sydney Park, St Peters, to gain a fresh perspective on how SFA’s products exist in the public realm. Joining us bright and early at 6 am, Aaron focused on capturing images that showed how the Plaza furniture range had integrated with the parklands over time; some products are more than ten years old and many bench seats, for instance, have become ensconced by native plants and shrubs. The photographs reveal a play of shadows and silhouettes against the backdrop of a crisp Sydney winter’s morning. A new addition to the Plaza range, the Plaza Platform, was also part of the shoot. Aaron has used Instagram for almost two years, and exclusively photographs with iPhone. He says, “I was looking to capture something …
