Linea Bollard with premium 316 electropolished stainless steel frame, aluminium Spotted Gum batten insert.
What is Electropolishing?
This advanced finishing process uses electrical currents to gently remove a microscopically-thin layer of the stainless steel, including any burrs, embedded particles and impurities. The resulting surface is clean and bright, smooth and even more highly resistant to corrosion and rust than untreated 316 stainless steel.
Research has shown that electropolishing significantly enhances the durability of 316 stainless steel by reducing the surface roughness, enriching the chromium-oxide passive layer, and lowering corrosion rates in chloride environments – for example, coastal areas – compared with mechanically polished surfaces (Springer, 2024).
Electropolish is not a coating, it is a refinement of the material itself.
Low Maintenance
Maintenance is simple, requiring only a wash with mild detergent and water, or just a hose-down when needed. No specialised cleaning or repair of coating is required to protect against corrosion or rust.
Investment and Long-Term Benefits
The protection afforded by electropolishing requires a higher upfront investment however saves custodians in maintenance, repair and replacement costs long-term over the life of the product, which is built to last for decades in the public realm.

Linea Planters and Frame Planters are keeping plants healthy while reducing maintenance costs, thanks to wicking beds. Wicking beds by WaterUps save up to 80% of water when compared with traditional drip irrigation. According to WaterUps, watering is only necessary every two weeks in summer, decreasing to four weeks in autumn and six weeks in winter. Wollongong City Council first installed wicking beds in their planters in 2019. Before installation the Council’s gardeners were watering their plants two to three times a week. “Now, when it gets warm, we’re probably just doing it once a week, depending on what’s in there and how big the pot is,” says Wollongong Council horticulturist Peter Parsons. There are currently 240 planters across Wollongong CBD maintained by the council, with about 90% watered with …
