Engineered Wood: A New Timber Alternative

With the look and feel of natural timber, backed by 12 months of performance testing for the public realm, engineered wood joins Street Furniture Australia’s selection of batten materials.

Designers and place custodians can now choose from three batten options to achieve a timber look: natural Spotted Gum hardwood, low maintenance aluminium Wood Without Worry, and engineered wood known as Onewood HRT.

See our Engineered Wood: Onewood HRT brochure or book a presentation.

What is engineered wood?
Onewood HRT (Homogeneous Reconstituted Timber) is a solid engineered timber, made from fast-growing FSC certified poplar and eucalyptus fibres that are compressed under heat and pressure with a resin binder. It is solid throughout with an organic grain and, like real hardwood, can be sanded to refresh.

Street Furniture Australia partners with a Singapore-based supplier, with timber fibres sourced from eco-certified plantations in Vietnam and China.

A more sustainable choice
Using fast-growing plantation fibres – drawing from the whole tree rather than just the heartwood – engineered wood provides a more renewable alternative to slow-growing native hardwoods.

The battens are produced under certified sustainable manufacturing processes by both Street Furniture Australia (ISO14001, Climate Active certified) and our supplier partner (ISO14024, Singapore Green Label Scheme certified).

12-months of inhouse testing
Onewood HRT has passed Street Furniture Australia’s rigorous 12-month testing program for strength, weathering, leaching and manufacturability. Additional manufacturer testing shows termite and fire resistance to BAL-29 fire standards.

Low maintenance, lower cost
The material weathers evenly to a silver patina and can be sanded back to refresh if desired.

Engineered wood is more cost-effective at purchase than natural hardwood.

Ready to specify
Engineered wood is available with select products from the Linea range – including benches, seats, tables, bins, sun lounges and planters. Tailoring fee and lead times apply for Linea Bicycle Stand, Linea Bollard and the VT range, and all other ranges.
