AILA parties in Adelaide

AILA South Australia, the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) and New Architects Group (NAG) packed out The Gallery in Adelaide with 180 landscape architects, designers, architects, students and industry professionals to celebrate the holiday season and new year.

Two new Forum seats, a cross between a backyard and street furniture bench, and a Cafe Round table, all powder coated in brilliant Bistro Orange, took centre stage for Street Furniture Australia’s selfie contest.

Entries featured a surprising number of matching orange accessories, selfies within selfies, and having a good time kicking up the heels, including:

In Profile: Charlene Bordley, Addventageous

Charlene Bordley (photo: right), the visionary founder of Parramatta Bike Hub, Parramatta Bike Tours and Addventageous, creates programs for ‘hard-to-reach’ groups including First Nations communities, women, seniors and disadvantaged youth. She met with StreetChat writer Kari Hill at the new home of the Parramatta Bike Hub on Wangal country, along the Parramatta River in Sydney Olympic Park. Charlene’s passion for making a difference in the community can be seen across the many social enterprise programs she runs. Wearing her uniform of blue, yellow and green, each colour symbolises a program: Blue for Addvantageous, Yellow for Parramatta Bike Tours and Green for the Parramatta Bike Hub. The Festival of Landscape Architecture: This Public Life brought together thinkers and practitioners in Melbourne to interrogate challenges of climate, culture, design and environment for landscape architects. The Australian Institute of Landscape Architecture (AILA) invited Street Furniture Australia to host an inaugural AILA Fellows’ Lunch. Our selfie contest winners are …

Between lightbulb moments and deep thinking sessions, some 500 delegates of AILA’s 2015 Festival of Landscape Architecture recharged at Street Furniture Australia’s pop-up This Public Life Park. The four-day conference program included the likes of David van de Leer, Natalie Jeremijenko and Jenny B Osuldsen talking all things landscape architecture in Melbourne on October 15 to 18. Visitors kicked off their shoes to enjoy the freshly rolled-out park lawn in Federation Square with SFA sun lounges, cafe tables and Forum seats in the shade of leafy trees planted in brightly coloured rim bins. To celebrate the launch of SFA’s Forum seats, a cross between a backyard and street furniture bench, delegates posted selfies with their favourite Forum to Facebook for a chance to take it home. Jubilee Playground wins AILA NSW Medal

Classic Plaza Seats mirror the colours of the landscape in this award-winning playground design. Jubilee Playground by Sue Barnsley Design has been awarded the Medal for Landscape Architecture at the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) NSW 2014 Awards. The playground, in Glebe’s Bicentennial Park in Sydney, is a whimsical community space for children; nicknamed ‘the lost world’ by its creators; meeting the increasing demand for inner city families to access outdoor play spaces. Street Furniture Australia provided a number of colourful Classic Plaza Seats for the playground, in keeping with the pre-existing seating nearby.
