Table Accessory: Small surface. Big possibilities.

Posted April 2026

A small addition that makes outdoor seating work harder.

Public spaces offer more than places to sit – they invite visitors to eat, work, study, or rest with a drink – yet flat surfaces are frequently missing from public seating.

The new Table Accessory by Street Furniture Australia for the Linea and Aria ranges has been designed as a compact, durable addition, offering a simple way to add functional surface space without the footprint of a full table.

Developed as a tried-and-tested companion, Table Accessory can be specified pre-fitted or retrofitted on site, making it suitable for both new projects and upgrades to existing spaces.

Designed for real-world use

The design journey began with a simple question: what do people actually need when they sit outdoors?

Testing focused on common use cases – from resting a coffee cup to supporting notebooks and laptops – which informed the size, shape and positioning of the tabletop.

Industrial designer Flynn Llewelyn notes: “The primary challenge was achieving universality and a clean aesthetic—making it work across both the Aria and Linea ranges, two families with distinct character and assembly methods.”

“The table had to have a minimal visual footprint while being extremely robust” he adds.

A compact, rounded form was selected for safety and visual harmony with Linea and Aria.

The result is a table surface that sits comfortably within reach, supporting everyday activities and integrating seamlessly to the seat or bench.

Built and tested for strength

Strength and durability were key design drivers, tested inhouse by our Engineering team.

The Table Accessory is manufactured from stainless steel and is rigorously endurance tested using 150kg (330 pound) loads across a minimum of 20,000 impact cycles, with testing continuing beyond failure to inform design refinements. Llewelyn says he enjoyed pushing the table’s strength.

“Testing it through 60,000 impact cycles, pushing the table to failure and then being able to improve on top of that gives me confidence, knowing it will withstand what’s expected and then some—for years.”

Structural improvements – including increased weld areas and additional fixings – were implemented to ensure long-term performance in public environments.

Flexible, retrofit-friendly design

From left to right: Surface/subsurface fixed, plinth-fixed and wall-fixed.

It is compatible with surface, subsurface, plinth and wall-fixed seating.

“We needed to ensure an installer could confidently retrofit or install the table to existing or new furniture,” Llewelyn said. “Using batten gaps as points of reference we’ve made it very easy to get the mounting plate as square as it needs to be within reasonable tolerance without a jig or measuring equipment.”

The ability to retrofit onsite supports staged projects, evolving budgets, and future upgrades without requiring full furniture replacement.

Thinking about the value add of the table accessory, Llewelyn said “The table creates a much richer, more versatile resting place than a seat or bench alone. It’s something I wish there was more of, to make the spaces you love to sit in more functional—like adding a table to your backyard.” And there’s also an element of joy and surprise: “The table was designed primarily to be sat beside, but you can also straddle it for more intentional use. I’m excited to see the creative ways people use the tables in their community.”

Ready to specify

Table Accessory is compatible with a wide range of Linea and Aria seats and benches, including straight and curved configurations, and is designed specifically as a secure, integrated solution – not a custom add-on. Available in stainless steel 304 and 316 (marine grade) and in a full range of durable and low maintenance powder coated finishes.

Technical sheets, CAD files and placement guides are available in Toolbox to assist with specification. Please enquire with our team to request a quote or sample.
