Christopher Morgan, Production Manager with Street Furniture Australia, led the presentation. He gave examples of cellular manufacturing, process flow, ergonomics and safety, Kanban material replenishment, assembly jigs and fixtures specific to our factory.

He showed a video of the Concourse Seat assembly process for Sydney Trains – a powerful demonstration of the effective application of ‘lean thinking.’ This philosophy focuses on the reduction of non-value-adding activities or waste and is derived mostly from the Toyota Production System.

John Mills, NSW Business Adviser with AusIndustry, said, “Street Furniture Australia is a great example of what is increasingly called ‘hybrid manufacturing’ – sourcing materials and components globally and designing, engineering and assembling locally.

“This is likely to become an increasingly popular business model for the future manufacturing sector in Australia.”
