Lissiman Street Activation

City of Gosnells in partnership with the The Royal Automobile Club of WA (RAC) has transformed a large vacant block  into a cheerful community space in the heart of Gosnells, south-east of the Perth CBD in Western Australia.

The project is part of RAC’s Reconnect WA initiative, which supports local government projects to create places for Western Australians to interact and reconnect.

City of Gosnells CEO, Ian Cowie, said the Lissiman Street Activation aims to temporarily transform the block into a colourful, attractive space for pop-up events and activities, with public art and seating.

“The transformation is aimed at encouraging community members to spend more time in the town centre, connect with others and support local businesses,” Mr Cowie told StreetChat.

“This project, in the heart of Gosnells, includes new safe and welcoming pedestrian and cycle connections from the Gosnells train station to the town centre, new public art and ping pong table, active pathways and bright street furniture.”

ChillOUT Trees provide shade, device charging and ambient lighting at night. The arrangement of three Trees are powder coated in Brilliant Yellow and feature the Circular roof, one in hard-cover Spandek, two with the Champagne perforation for dappled shade.

“The ChillOUT Trees were selected for the simple design, suitable size and functionality. They offer USB and power charging ports for community use, incorporate LED lighting and are brightly coloured to suit the space. The furniture provides a number of casual seating options to complement the space,” Mr Cowie said.

Furnishing the ChillOUT Trees are the Aria Seating System with Cafe Macchiato Tables, Aria Lookout Tables paired with Cafe Stools, and a grouping of Linea Cubes integrated with graphics on the ground plane.

Council says the community are enjoying the vibrant revitalised space, “The community have embraced the transformation of this space with many visitors each day passing through, or stopping to enjoy the fresh, green space.

“The City has encouraged further use of the space with market stalls and a well-supported Festival of Football event to celebrate the FIFA Women’s World Cup.”
