Brightmore Reserve NSW, Australia (2016)

Circular benches are installed around shady trees in Brightmore Reserve in the North Sydney suburb of Cremorne.

The reserve feature a children’s bicycle track that simulates a real roadway, complete with roundabouts, pedestrian crossings and signs.

A play village with a service station, row of shops, fire engine and fire station are set around the outside, with shaded play equipment in the centre.

The benches provide a perfect spot for some traffic downtime, or serve to prop up bikes, trikes, scooters and helmets while their owners enjoy the playground.

Dunning Avenue Park

Designed by David Duncan from ASPECT Studios, this Rosebery park includes design features to minimise noise and make maintenance more cost effective. Plinth-mounted benches and seats are installed on a concrete wall that runs around the play area, fitted with standard Classic Plaza Seat battens in eco-certified hardwood. Using the standard battens achieved a custom seat in a cost effective way, says Duncan, and will make the benches more maintenance-friendly. Classic Plaza Tables, Benches and Seats are also positioned throughout the park.

The Warleigh, Brighton

The Warleigh Brighton is a seaside residential complex with around half of its footprint dedicated to open space, including shared gardens and lawns designed by Jack Merlo. SJB Architects says the overall feel is about solidity with a contemporary edge. Street Furniture Australia was called on to create three custom day beds for the outdoor space, featuring spotted gum timber battens, oil finished, and HDG support frames. “It’s paramount as a designer to produce spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but usable and functional,” says Jack Merlo. “The outdoor areas allocated to many of the homes are almost as large as the apartments themselves. Generous timber decks and the use of bluestone and natural stone materials give a warm palette and provide a complementary connection between inside and out.”

The Hunt Club

The Hunt Club is a private estate home to families and retirees in Melbourne’s Cranbourne East, with its own shopping village onsite. Custom curved seats were commissioned from Street Furniture Australia to furnish the outdoor area of the anticipated Hunt Club Village. At the request of landscape architect Mark Skiba from Tract Consultants, Street Furniture Australia created a tailored Arc Seat, tightening the radius to complement the curve of the courtyard’s trees. The seats were further modified to match Classic Galleria Seats and Benches also installed at the site, with custom eco-certified hardwood battens and standard Galleria arms. Silva Grates protect the trees in a high traffic area. Architects for the project are Tony Arcari and Tony Trajkovski from the Buchan Group, with Becon Construction carrying out the build.
