Amberton Beach Lighthouse Park WA, Australia (2020)

This beachside adventure park in Eglinton WA, designed by Emerge Associates for Stockland, features a Wood Without Worry aluminium woodgrain suite of furniture in Beach Oak Grey.

An 8.5 metre Lighthouse Tower is the centrepiece of the $5 million foreshore precinct, which also features picnic areas, tunnel slides, a ship play structure, rope maze, sand play, basketball court and stairs directly down to the beach.

Emerge has specified Park DDA Seats in key positions around the park. Park DDA Settings with matching benches also provide places to meet, rest and dine.

The seats and tables feature UV and salt-resistant Wood Without Worry aluminium woodgrain battens in Beach Oak Grey, paired with Woodland Grey frames. The grey palette complements the bright colours of the play elements.

“The furniture selection importantly needed to be suitable for the coastal location of the site,” said Zac Fried, Senior Landscape Architect with Emerge Associates.

“Aluminium battens with a woodgrain ‘Beach Oak’ finish were selected, this also matched materials used elsewhere on the site and tied into the theme of the foreshore public open space.

“The park is extremely popular all year round, however particularly in summer, so the furniture selection needed to be hard wearing and low maintenance.

“The furniture caters for large groups of users of the space at the same time, the oversized shelters have multiple picnic settings underneath for larger communal events. The picnic settings were also importantly selected to be DDA compliant ensuring accessibility for all abilities,” he said.

The hollow-extrusion Wood Without Worry woodgrain aluminium battens, insulated with a textured powdercoat, tend to feel cooler to the touch than other materials. See our Batten Temperature Report.

Local playgrounds and green spaces are some of the most important investments Stockland makes in creating new communities, Stockland WA Residential General Manager Col Dutton told The West Australian.

“Our aim at Stockland is to create vibrant, connected areas for people to gather within their communities,” he said.

“Creating attractive open spaces is an important first step in the early days of community creation, as it provides a meeting place and activity centre for new residents.”

Spiral Hoop Bicycle Parking invites cyclists to pause on their journey at a sheltered bike station, complete with air pump for tyres.

An Arqua Fountain, powdercoated in Night Sky, provides fresh drinking water on tap for visitors.

Landscape Architect Ian Bentley led the design for Council, he says, “Before Rowan Robinson Park there wasn’t a place in Kingscliff for large gatherings, to watch bands, to accommodate thirty kids at a birthday party or a place to hang out and watch others pass by. Chinchilla Botanic Parklands

A $5.9 million project that spans 4.2 hectares, co-funded by Western Downs Regional Council and the Queensland Government. The town is known as Australia’s melon capital. It produces 25% of the country’s watermelons, rockmelons and honeydew, and hosts a biennial Chinchilla Melon Festival including a melon skiing event. Honouring the iconic pink and green fruit, a custom designed Water Play Area is a showpiece of the Parkland’s playscapes. “The watermelon theme resonates with Chinchilla; including it in this space is an appropriate way to celebrate this important symbol of cultural identity and enhance the native planting scheme used elsewhere,” says Parklands landscape architect Mandy Rounsefell, Director of Rounsefell Design. Rounsefell collaborated with Playscape Creations on custom play equipment including a giant watermelon bucket that fills and cascades over, and pop-jets …
