Landscape architects gathered at The Mint in Sydney’s CBD from sunset to night-time, to examine 26 new Linea products from the sleek and minimalist collection accompanied by live jazz and Negronis.
The event was attended by Street Furniture Australia co-founder and director Bill Morrison and his wife Libby Morrison. We thank them for their generous support of our first in-person event, the perfect antidote to years of lockdown.
“The Linea range is special to us largely because it was co-designed with landscape architects. We deeply thank Tim Field, Hamish Dounan, Sam Westlake and Dr Kate Bishop who gave their time to the design process,” said Head of Marketing and Innovation, June Lee Boxsell.
Head of Product Design Francis McArdle said the contribution of landscape architects was central in developing the sleek and minimalist range.
“We listened closely to their wishlists for this contemporary style of public space furniture – including the product categories they would most like to see and specify, aesthetics and highly practical considerations,” said Francis.
“The result is a refined minimal form language that belies incredible strength and durability achieved through stainless steel frames. The products also have environmental benefits in that they are 100% recyclable when specified with aluminium battens,” he said.
Tim Field, Senior Associate – Landscape Architect with Place Design Group and a consultant for the Linea design said the event was an excellent opportunity to see the fully-realised collection all together, in one place.
“In working with Street Furniture Australia on the Linea range, we had some great meetings with Francis and June exploring how to continue the Linea language across benches, seats and bike racks,” Tim said.
“I encourage landscape architects to speak with Street Furniture Australia about your ideas, because they can turn them into reality. It’s great to now see the full collection of Linea products.”
Winter Jazz with Linea guests were invited on the night to post a photo on Instagram of their favourite Linea product, with a chance to win one of three tickets to the 2022 International Festival of Landscape Architecture: COUNTRY to be held in Brisbane, Queensland in October.
Here are the winners:
For demonstrating the ideal way the Linea Sun Lounge should be used – relaxing with a drink in hand: Amanda Oates.
For undeniable energy and fun with the Linea Bollards – two winners, Clare O’Brien and Samantha Sorensen.
The Linea products have returned to the Street Furniture Australia studio and factory in Western Sydney and are available for viewing before they travel to Brisbane for the AILA Festival in October.
Successful products are often followed by copycats. Over the past year we have become aware of an increase in reproductions of the Linea range attempting to create a similar aesthetic at a lower price. This can compromise the overall durability and environmental credentials of projects being delivered, affect ongoing maintenance requirements, and in some instances pose a risk of injury to the public. The design of Linea is deceptively simple while delivering exceptional attention to detail. Details matter not only for beauty, but also for providing durability, and safety, that will last decades. Linea strictly uses the highest quality and sustainable materials, has passed rigorous strength tests, and is designed for longevity, with easily replaceable parts. The product range is the result of hundreds of hours of research and development …
Street Furniture Australia’s entire product range and manufacturing operation has received carbon neutral certification through Climate Active™. It is one of the most rigorous carbon-neutral programs in the world. An approved Emissions Reduction Strategy (ERS) is central to achieving certification through Climate Active. Street Furniture Australia has elected to use SBTi validated science-based targets to ensure their ERS is meaningful and aligns with the 2015 Paris Agreement – to limit global temperature rises to 1.5℃ above pre-industrial levels. For those emissions that can’t be …
