Exhibiting in a tranquil park environment at the infrastructure expo CIVENEX in Sydney

At an outdoor site at CIVENEX, Street Furniture Australia decided to recreate how our furniture appears in its natural habitat – a park. Andreasens Green, a leading Australian nursery, partnered with us for the event and provided a stylish array of trees and plants.

Partnering with Andreasens Green

Street Furniture Australia collaborated with Context Landscape Design to create the site. The brief was put forward as a competition among their staff and the result was an amalgamation of the best ideas from each entry. A bottle of Moet was awarded to the very talented designers Claire Broun, Ross Mills and Bhavna Arumugam.

The final design created a harmonious and cosy setting for visitors to lounge on, and the potted trees provided shade from the blazing sun. The Street Furniture Australia stand offered a surprising and pleasant change to the surrounding stands at the expo.

Murri School receives Linea donation

Street Furniture Australia is donating $40,000 worth of furniture from breakout spaces from the 2022 Festival of Landscape Architecture: COUNTRY to The Murri School, an Aboriginal and Islander Independent Community School in Brisbane. The collection of Linea Seats, Cubes, Curved Benches, Sun Lounges and Picnic Settings includes a pair painted by artist Casey Coolwell-Fisher, a Quandamooka, Nunukul woman of Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island, Queensland) – commissioned by Street Furniture Australia and Blaklash Creative. Director of Blaklash Creative and member of the Festival Creative Directorate Troy Casey says, “A huge part of the festival was about how we can ensure that community gets something from it. In rapidly urbanising Seoul, the next battle is saving green spaces: “Korea is a country that does not value greenery,” professor of landscape architecture at Pusan National University, Hong Suk Hwan, told Bloomberg CityLab. It “only acknowledges the value of property.” Samgmi Cha writes about South Korean local, 34-year-old Baik SooHye inspiring the shift of devaluing green spaces in South Korea to saving these spaces. SooHye’s ‘Plant Kindergarten’ project encourages the protection of hundreds of plants that are often destroyed at construction sites across Seoul.  Cha meets SooHye in her outdoor garden in western Seoul with the many plant species that she’s saved from these sites. The rescued plants are ‘adopted’ out to others who are also passionate about green spaces in Korea. My Park Rules finalists

Close to 100 pleas for new parks have flooded in for the My Park Rules competition, with eight state and territory finalists teaming up with leading landscape architects to pitch for the coveted playground makeover. The judging panel, including Lucy Turnbull AO, Sacha Coles from ASPECT Studios and Mary Jeavons from Jeavons Landscape Architecture, will consider each pitch in March, and announce the national winner on May 1. Camerer hatches winning seat

Landscape architect Nicholas Camerer, from Fremantle’s Ecoscape in Western Australia, is the winner of the first Intergrain Urban Timber Project. Graduates and students pitched their designs for a functional piece of urban furniture for a community garden in Werribee Park, Victoria; a supportive cross-cultural hub for locals and Karen refugees. The challenge: to find imaginative ways to use timber in a seat that invites the community to come together. Camerer’s winning design, ‘Hatch,’ features a curved form and strong timber cross beams, which can serve as a leaning rack for tools and garden stakes when not being used as a seat. Flashes of red, white and blue on inner panels represent the colours of both Karen and Australian flags. The bench is designed for easy maintenance and cleaning, and complements an existing …

Our selfie contest winners are …

Between lightbulb moments and deep thinking sessions, some 500 delegates of AILA’s 2015 Festival of Landscape Architecture recharged at Street Furniture Australia’s pop-up This Public Life Park. The four-day conference program included the likes of David van de Leer, Natalie Jeremijenko and Jenny B Osuldsen talking all things landscape architecture in Melbourne on October 15 to 18. Visitors kicked off their shoes to enjoy the freshly rolled-out park lawn in Federation Square with SFA sun lounges, cafe tables and Forum seats in the shade of leafy trees planted in brightly coloured rim bins. To celebrate the launch of SFA’s Forum seats, a cross between a backyard and street furniture bench, delegates posted selfies with their favourite Forum to Facebook for a chance to take it home.
