Darwin’s Walk, Wentworth Falls

Wilson Park in Wentworth Falls is the starting point of the recently re-opened first section of Darwin’s Walk. Blue Mountains City Council worked with NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service to restore the historically significant walk and track head after flood damage closed the tourist site for over four years. The walk begins near the tennis courts in Wilson Park and is sign posted with sandstone walls and a shaded area.

“The stone entry walls and pergola are intended to give some presence to the track head but sit comfortably in the landscape, at the same time providing an opportunity for signage and seating,” says landscape architect Rob Fallon from Blue Mountains City Council.

People gather at Wilson Park both as a destination and before starting the walk. Council wanted furniture for people to have a coffee, a bite to eat or simply a place to adjust their day pack.

Seating was chosen from the Linea range. Linea Seats (LIS10) and Linea Benches (LIB6) including single seats feature Spotted Gum hardwood battens, Textura Dark Bronze frame.

“The Linea range provides plenty of variety. Council selected this as part of the furniture palette for the Southern Escarpment of the Blue Mountains, which extends from Katoomba in the west to Wentworth Falls in the East. The spotted gum gives warmth and matches with the Dark Bronze finish which complements the natural area surrounding it,” Rob told StreetChat.

The project has been warmly welcomed by locals and visitors alike.
