Warners Bay Sculpture Walk

The Warners Bay Foreshore is a major recreational drawcard for Lake Macquarie, and a popular stop-off point on a shared pathway that runs from Eleebana to Boolaroo and Booragul. Lake Macquarie City Council refreshed the area with new plazas, extended gardens, viewing areas, a fitness trail and sculpture walk. Visitors can meet at the first artwork, ‘Beach Blossom,’ at Eleebana Lions Park, and walk or ride a bicycle, stopping off at sculptures on the way to the Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery. Artworks on the trail include a flying pig, a Buddhist monk, a mauve bust of Charles Darwin and a hooded figure surveying the view across the lake. Canberra Light Rail

The first stage of Canberra’s new Light Rail connects Gungahlin, through Dickson to the City, with 13 stops along the 12km track. The stops have a distinct architectural form, says designer Architectus, that will make “a significant contribution to place-making along the network.” “They will be significant landmark structures. The materials and finishes are consistent with the stature and quality of other key landmark projects in the National Capital,” they say. “We have designed the Capital Metro Project for Canberra, delivering civic dignity and pride and a quality of public space equal to Canberra’s most important public and cultural projects.” A custom furniture suite, also designed by Architectus with additional support and manufacturing by Street Furniture Australia, is installed at each station. Garden For the Future

Custom promenade seating, 133 metres long, is installed in the Garden For the Future, an extension of the Bendigo Botanic Gardens designed by TCL with Paul Thompson for the City of Greater Bendigo. The garden opened in April 2019, with the long, curved seating installed in July. Its battens are made from 700 linear metres of Red Gum timber, reclaimed from trees removed for the Ravenswood interchange project on the Calder Freeway. The promenade bench is “a place to sit and relax,” says the City of Greater Bendigo, with seating in high demand around the garden. “We’ve found that a lack of public seating is detrimental to many people enjoying the Botanic Gardens and this is one of the most frequently requested features,” they say. “The seating will also provide …
